Katie + Mike

September 28, 2019

First United Methodist Church | Venue Chisca

When you're the last of three daughters to get married, your family knows how to plan a wedding! Katie's mom, Phyllis, first reached out to me about coordinating Katie and Mike's wedding day. There was no initial meeting, or get-to-know-you coffee date, or introductory FaceTime. Phyllis called me one afternoon and got straight to the facts, and I jumped right into planning with them! We met a few times at Phyllis and Don's beautiful home, then met with Michelle at Venue Chisca to finalize all of the reception details. I loved being a part of their planning process!

Katie and Mike's wedding day was filled with so many special details, personal touches, and even a few surprises. Every single part of their day was personalized and intentional. While Katie and her bridesmaids were getting their hair and makeup done, I started off the day at Venue Chisca placing table numbers & votives at each table. I also placed champagne glasses, favors (cookies from Trefzgers!), and napkins at each guest's seat (all 220 seats!). I then brought the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres from Venue Chisca to Katie and Mike at the Pere Marquette. After checking in, I grabbed lunch and went back to Venue Chisca to finish placing macerated blackberries in each champagne glass and setting up a welcome sign outside the entrance to Venue Chisca.

Things began to speed up as I was called back to Venue Chisca to help with boutonnieres (the groomsmen all put them on the wrong side!), then set off for First United Methodist Church with their programs, guest book, and special signage for right before Katie walked down the aisle. I worked with FUMC's wedding coordinator, Kitty, to make sure their ceremony went smoothly. I then helped guide guests outside to do a Grand Exit for Katie and Mike - which resulted in one of my favorite photos from their day (Pam, you're amazing)!

Katie, Mike, and their bridal party took a few more photos before meeting their guests at a cocktail hour at Venue Chisca immediately following their ceremony. There were amazing hors d'oeuvres from Connie at A Matter of Taste, followed by a plated dinner later from Childers. Katie and Phyllis designed personalized cocktail napkins and right before Katie's dad, Don, gave his speech, there was a surprise duet sung by two of Katie's friends. Their dance floor stayed full until the end of the night. I then helped gather all of their gifts, flowers, and personal items for them to take home. This wedding was one of my favorite weddings of the year (they're all my favorite, honestly!) because of the attention to detail and personalization of every part of their day. Katie and Phyllis (and really their whole family) were the sweetest and kindest group of people. I loved coordinating this wedding, and consider Phyllis, Don, Katie, and Mike true friends!
